LEGISLATIVE REPORT

MAY 2009

The following bills that could impact ACEC member firms or their clients have been introduced.

  1. HOUSE BILL 144 – This Bill would allow agencies receiving a bid or contract to require the payment of a legal processing fee that would be established by the Office of Management and Budget. This Bill is in the House Administration Committee. We have spoken to not only the sponsor of this Bill, but also to other entities that could be impacted and have been assured that it will most likely not get out of committee. We will continue to monitor.
  2. SENATE BILL 95 – This Bill would consolidate the current nineteen school districts within the State to four districts. This Bill is in the Senate Finance Committee. This Bill is not popular with the Districts and could have a negative impact on firms doing business with the individual Districts. We should monitor the Bill.

With June fast approaching, we should continue to be diligent on reviewing Bills and be prepared to attend hearings, etc. to speak on legislative matters that impact our businesses either positively or negatively.
