LEGISLATIVE REPORT

APRIL 2008

 

The following bills that could impact ACEC member firms or their clients have been introduced.

 

  1. SENATE BILL 234 – This Bill would allow DAPE to adjudicate cases of unlicensed engineering practice, an authority previously granted to the Attorney General only. This would allow DAPE to expedite the process for unlicensed practice, while providing fines up to $5,000.00 and if the practice does not stop then fines up to $5,000.00 per day. This Bill is in Senate Finance Committee.
  2. Senate Bill 240 – This Bill would allow equity in real property other than your residence to be protected from creditors the same as equity in investments or other personal property. This Bill is in the Senate Banking Committee.
  3. House Bill 346 – This Bill would make it against the law for legislators to influence the hiring practices of the State as it relates to a close relative of the legislator. This Bill is out of Committee.
